About Us

Datastar is backed by Star Federation – a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization – and developed by three core contributors:

• Delaney Gillilan (delaneyj)
  Making web development less complicated – one Chaz at a time.
• Ben Croker (bencroker)
  Ensuring the plan looks intentional – writing the manual that no one will read.
• Johnathan Stevers (jmstevers)
  Optimizing the framework and playing code golf – in between classes.

Besides working on the Datastar framework, we maintain SDKs, run an active Discord server, produce a video podcast, and build tools for making web development “less complicated”.

Nonprofit Organization #

To ensure that Datastar can continue to grow and thrive long into the future, we have established Star Federation as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization in the United States, which means that donations to it are tax-deductible.

The purpose of Star Federation is to provide free and open-source tools and resources that enhance web developers’ productivity and promote collaboration. We facilitate knowledge transfer and support community building by encouraging cross-pollination of ideas across a diverse range of backend technologies.

Community Support #

Datastar grew out of, and continues to be, a community effort. We encourage web developers to join our Discord server to ask questions, share experiences, and help others.

Datastar is maintained by three core contributors. Financial contributions in the form of sponsorship help us pay for running costs, web hosting, and traveling to conferences to talk about Datastar.

Coded by Hand #

Datastar is a labor of love. We take pride in the fact that the codebase is clean, simple, lightweight, and powerful. Every line of code is written by hand. Every feature has at least one automated test.

Datastar Pro #

Datastar is a production-ready framework that is free and open source. For sites and web apps with more demanding requirements, Datastar Pro provides additional functionality.

Datastar Pro features are available under a commercial license that helps fund the work of Star Federation. It allows us to keep the core Datastar framework free, lightweight, and open source.
